Onlays are carvings that serve as ornamentation’s upon
any surface of which they have been applied. Used for hundreds
of years, the traditional settings in which onlays are used include
furniture, fireplace mantels, millwork and rosettes creating an
effect of depth and completeness.
Available in most species of wood, onlays can be painted, finished
or left unfinished to match your desired décor. Onlays are
also hand-carved allowing for a variety of architectural styles,
from modern to classical, old-world antique to country, as well as
acanthus, grape bunches, flowers, hearts, stars or suns.
Easily one of the greatest features about the onlay is it’s
ease of installation. All that is required for application is adhesive
and a surface to accent or maybe act as a decorative centerpiece.
Applying onlays or appliqués can be an easy do-it-yourself
project, and with many patterns of onlays available, they can add
a decorative and personal touch to any home. |
